Conference – BMA Law’s Participation at the Nottinghamshire Local Medical Committee Annual Conference 2024

Wednesday, 7 February 2024, 1:30pm -2:15 pm

Don’t miss out on our workshop on GP Partnership delivered by BMA Law Associate Director, Sofia Parmar.

Nottinghamshire LMC’s Annual Conference returns on Wednesday 7th February 2024, with a host of great speakers and workshops aimed to support Practice Managers and GPs in running the practice. We are delighted to announce that Dr Katie Bramall-Stainer, Chair of GPC England, will be starting the day with an update on the work being done by GPC and to answer practices questions.

There will be a number of workshops taking place throughout the day, including sessions from Kraft HR, NHS Pensions and Safe Working in General Practice.

BMA Law workshop will cover the following*:

  • Importance of an Updated Partnership Deed: Ensure your partnership operates smoothly by updating your partnership deed. It governs how you operate together, helps navigate disputes, and prevents the instability of operating as a ‘partnership at will’ regulated by the outdated Partnership Act 1890.
  • Risks of Not Updating: Failure to update the partnership deed poses the risk of operating as a ‘partnership at will,’ allowing dissolution at any time, which can threaten your NHS contract and trigger the winding up of the practice.
  • Key Provisions in a Well-Drafted Deed: A comprehensive partnership deed should cover essential aspects such as duration, profit sharing, capital contributions, decision-making, partner duties, leave clauses, dispute resolution, restrictive covenants, expulsion provisions, and procedures for retirement or death. Regular updates are crucial, especially when welcoming new partners.
